Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held his first meeting with the supervisory board of NNEGC Energoatom, emphasizing the urgent need to revamp its leadership and pledging full support.
“I had my first meeting with the Energoatom supervisory board. The government expects the supervisory board to effectively overhaul the company’s management. This is the top priority. The government will provide all necessary assistance,” he posted on his Telegram channel following the meeting on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister stressed that “new top management must be established promptly following a transparent competitive selection process.”
According to him, he also discussed the state-owned company’s financial standing and preparations for the autumn-winter period with the supervisory board members.
“Such meetings will be held on a regular basis,” he announced.
As previously reported, according to First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, NNEGC Energoatom is expected to have a new chairman of the board and an updated executive team no later than October, following the conclusion of a tender process for which applications closed on July 31, 2026.
Regarding NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, for which Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed appointing former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, the coordinator of the Energy and Climate sector of the Ukraine Facility Platform and corporate governance expert Oleksandr Vizir noted a week ago in a comment to “Енергореформа” that negotiations with the independent members of the company’s supervisory board (SB), which holds the authority to appoint the chairman of the board or acting chairman, are most likely still ongoing.
For her part, former member of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities (NKREKP) Olha Babii stated in a comment to “Енергореформа” that Yuliia Svyrydenko “is an ideal choice for Naftogaz,” and she does not understand why she has not been appointed yet.
Prime Minister Shmyhal indicated during the government’s Question Time in the Verkhovna Rada on August 21 that he believes an ideal scenario would be for the new chairman of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine to be appointed after the 2026/27 autumn-winter period.
